Recruiting: Camp Followers

Requirements for a Camp Follower of the 2nd Reg't of Lincoln Militia


*NOTE:  BEFORE buying anything, please consult the Unit Commander/Group Staff. 

Physical And Safety:


Camp Followers: must be sixteen years upon the earth or older who dress in period correct attire and help out in the camp by cooking, clean-up, set-up, tear down, gathering firewood and or water, and otherwise sharing in the overall portrayal of life during the war of 1812.

"Children of Camp Followers": are children under the age of sixteen and must be under the parental or supervisory care of a member aged eighteen or older.  Children also dress in period correct clothing.

Camp Followers must sign the mandatory safety documentation and be covered by the group's insurance plan 

Clothing:

Womenfolk:  

Option 1:

1 mobcap, white linen or white cotton
1 shortgown (jacket with three quarter sleeves) period correct coloured and/or printed linen, cotton, wool, silk, or any combination of these fibers  ie. cotton calico
1 chemise (shoulder to knee length blouse - undergarment)
1 peticoat (skirt) same material requirements as short gown, please mix and match!
1 pair period correct shoes or moccasins (centre seam)
1 apron cotton or linen
OPTIONAL:
Bonnet of wool, straw, fabric etc.  ie. poke bonnet
pocket (small purse worn under skirt)

Option 2:

1 mobcap, white linen or white cotton
1 Regency Era style dress (jacket with three quarter sleeves) period correct coloured and/or printed linen, cotton, wool, silk, or any combination of these fibers  ie. cotton calico
1 chemise (shoulder to knee length blouse - undergarment)
1 pair period correct shoes, moccasins (centre seam), or ghillies
1 apron cotton or linen
OPTIONAL:
Bonnet of wool, straw, fabric etc.  ie. poke bonnet
pocket (small purse worn under skirt)
parasol
eye glasses (period correct)

Menfolk:

Option 1:

1 hat, period correct wool felt, straw, or knitted toque (period correct)
1 workman's coat melton wool
1 weskit, wool, linen, cotton, silk, or combination of these fibers only
1 linen,cotton, or flannel shirt, white or check (period correct)
1 cravat, black,white, or colours cotton, linen, silk or any combination of these fibers only
1 pair drop front trousers med blue, natural, white or tan, cotton, canvas, or linen
1 pair black or grey gaiters, wool or canvas
1 pair black shoes, square-toed or moccasins, centre seam

Optional:
haversac
eye glasses (period correct)
clay pipe

Option 2: 

(Please remember, upper class gentry did not typically gather around the militia encampment!)

1 top hat, straw, wool felt, or beaver
1 tailcoat made of wool.  Grade/quality is your choice, depending on the character you are portraying.
1 shirt, linen, silk, cotton, or combination of these fibers
1 cravat, white (for dress) colours acceptable, linen or silk
1 pair breeches or trousers, wool, linen, canvas, cotton or any combination of these fibers only.
1 pair of shoes or riding boots
Optional:
haversac
eye glasses (period correct)
clay pipe
1 walking stick

Mess Kit:

1 plate, wood or tin
1 bowl, wood or tin
1 cup, wood, tin, or period correct earthern ware
1 fork (period correct)
1 knife (period correct)
1 spoon (period correct)

Group Fees/Dues:

An annual total of $20.00 is collected at the AGM in January of each year for that year's events.
This includes:

Insurance fee, currently $15.00 
Group dues, currently $5.00 per member 16 years of age and older.
